Getting started
Before you book
-
If something feels off — you're exhausted and can't figure out why, you keep hitting the same walls, or you just don't feel like yourself — that's enough. You don't need a crisis, a diagnosis, or a specific reason to start.
Therapy is for anyone who wants to understand themselves better, feel more grounded, or make changes that keep slipping out of reach on their own.
-
No. A formal diagnosis is not required to begin therapy, and you don't need a referral from a doctor. Most people come simply because something in their life isn't working — and that's completely enough.
-
The free consult is a short introductory call — not a therapy session. It's a chance to introduce yourself, ask any questions you have, and get a feel for whether we're the right fit. There's no pressure and no commitment involved.
Based on what you share, our clinical director will match you with the therapist on our team who's best suited to support you.
-
You don't have to figure that out on your own. The free consult is designed specifically to help with this — our clinical director meets with every new client and makes the match based on your needs, your goals, and who you're likely to connect with best.
You're welcome to browse our therapist profiles first if you'd like to get a sense of who's on the team.
-
That's completely normal — and honestly, most people feel some version of this before their first contact. The free consult is low-key by design. There's no intake form, nothing to prepare, and no expectation that you have things figured out.
If you'd prefer to write first, you're welcome to email us at admin@mindfulwellnesspsychotherapy.ca and ask questions before committing to a call.
About therapy
What to expect from therapy
-
Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained therapist to better understand your thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns. It provides a supportive space to explore challenges, build coping strategies, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and others.
It's not about being told what to do or having someone fix you — it's about gaining insight, building tools, and making changes that feel genuinely yours.Psychotherapy is a collaborative process where you work with a trained therapist to better understand your thoughts, emotions, experiences, and patterns. Sessions are collaborative conversations guided by you and your therapist together. Your therapist will ask questions, reflect things back, and help you notice patterns you might not have seen on your own.
First sessions focus on getting to know you — what brought you in, what matters to you, and what you'd like to work toward. From there, the focus shifts to whatever is most relevant for you at that time.
-
Very common — and not a problem at all. You don't need to prepare anything or arrive with a clear sense of what's wrong. Your therapist will guide the conversation. Just showing up is the hard part, and we'll take it from there.
-
Yes. Everything you share in sessions is confidential. There are a small number of legal and ethical exceptions — for example, if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or when required by law. Your therapist will explain these limits clearly at the start of your work together.
-
There's no fixed timeline. Some clients work on a specific challenge over a few months. Others find longer-term therapy valuable for ongoing personal growth and self-understanding.
Your therapist will check in regularly on what's working and what's not, and adjust the pace and focus as you go. You're always in control of how long you continue.
Sessions & scheduling
Practical details
-
Most therapy sessions are 50 minutes, scheduled within a one-hour appointment block.
-
Most clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions to build momentum and develop a strong therapeutic relationship. As things shift and progress is made, many transition to less frequent sessions — biweekly or monthly check-ins.
Your therapist will work with you to find a frequency that feels helpful and sustainable for your life.

Research consistently shows it is for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, and burnout. Many clients find they're actually more open when they're in their own space. The most important factor is the relationship with your therapist — and that builds just as well online.
